About Me

​I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a focus in Pre-Med from Spelman College. After completing my Doctorate of Chiropractic from Life University, I relocated back to Columbia, MD where I now serve the community as one of the few perinatal pain specialists in the region. 

I have post-doctoral certifications in Webster's technique, Dry Needling, Active Release Technique, Torque Release, and Childbirth Education.

I practice utilizing Manual Adjustments, Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation, Myofascial Release, Instrument Assisted- Soft Tissue Manipulation, Cranial Therapy, Instrument Adjusting, and Global Mechanical Assessments. 

I am a candidate for a Diplomat in Functional Medicine and Certification by the Academy Council of Chir

I am a Doula, Natural Childbirth Educator, and Reiki Master. 

My patients call me Dr. Joi, but my favorite title is Mommy. 

Dr. Joi Gaddy Egbuniwe

Dr. Joi Gaddy-Egbuniwe, originally from Howard County, MD entered Spelman College as a Merit Scholar and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on a Pre-Medicine track. While pursuing this degree, Dr. Joi coached two swim teams, researched gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, studied the effects of pancreatic cancer on immunosupression at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and interned with the Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute. She helped innovate DOE’s Low Dose Ranges Chart that is still highly utilized and valued today. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Upon receiving the Full- Tuition Harvey Lillard Scholarship, she attended Life University's Chiropractic College. Her theses covered the following topics: The Improvement of Fertility Outcomes through Chiropractic Care, and, The Resolution of Pediatric Enuresis following Chiropractic Care.

Dr. Joi is now a Perinatal and Pediatric Chiropractor, Board-Certified in Physical Therapy, with post-doctoral training in Functional Medicine, treatment of Neurological Disorders, Functional Nutrition, Preconception, Herbalism, Personal Injury, and Pelvic Floor Therapy. In 2021, Dr. Joi will sit for her Board Certifications in Nutrition, Pediatrics, and Diplomat in Functional Medicine. She has Advanced Certificates in Prenatal Issues, Women’s Health, Holistic Health, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Pre-natal Nutrition, Meditation, Happy Pregnancy, Mindfulness, Dry Needling, Active Release Technique, and more. In practice, Dr. Joi utilizes an array of techniques, ranging from Cranial Sacral Therapy, Webster’s Technique, Myofascial Release to Reiki, and so much more. Dr. Joi is a certified Doula, Breastfeeding Support Specialist, and Natural Childbirth Education Instructor. As a Wife (Anthony) and Pregnant Mama of 2 (Saint and Gracie), she is very passionate about Family Wellness. After battling Pre-eclampsia, Dr. Joi became ardent on advocating for better Black Maternal Health Outcomes. She believes Black Maternal Health activism starts at the Patient-advocacy level and works to ensure the best, most equitable care for all of her patients and clients, in every aspect possible throughout the matriculation of their obstetric care. She is owner of T[her]apy in Columbia, MD which is a medical practice focused on the natural healing of women and their families. The Baltimore office she works in was just named “The Best Chiropractic Office in Baltimore” by the Baltimore Sun. Her favorite things are family playtime, the pool, leading guided meditations or dynamic stretching, and BGM Peloton rides.
